Hair swirling, the warm ocean currents cradle the mermaid sisters.

DIY Laundry Detergent

This is so cool I had to share it . I got the recipe from my sister in-law (thanks Jen) who got it from a blog called Craft Gawker   http://craftgawker.com   all I did was tweak it just a little ....

What You will need ........

Bar of Soap
1 cup Borax
1 cup Washing Soda
1/4 cup Downy Unstopables (optional)
Food Processor or Grater and Bowl
Storage Container
Scoop or Spoon

Step 1 ........

Grate 1 bar of soap into a bowl . For this part I decided to use my food processor with the grate attachment because i was going to quadruple the recipe ....... that and I wanted to save my fingers !
Make sure to use a soap that appeals to you and your skin . I used Yardley of London Lavender but if you per fer you can use another brand .

Step 2 ........

Into the bowl or processor add 1 cup Borax and 1 cup Washing Soda . I used Arm and Hammer Washing Soda .

Step 3 ........

Mix with spoon or processor blade attachment until grated soap breaks down into smaller pieces and starts to resemble powdered detergent .

Step 4 ........         This is optional ........ add 1/4 cup or more of Downy Unstopables and stir . One reason I added this is because it made the laundry smell fresher longer . Keep in mind that this will add a little to the overall cost but will still be cheaper than the leading brand detergents .

I washed and saved an old Hellman's mayo container , made a label on the computer for the front of the jar , covered the label with clear packing tape to keep it looking nice and ta-da !
Homemade laundry detergent !!!

Now the original recipe calls for 1Tbs per load but I use a small ice cream scoop that was a wedding favor , (thanks Amber and Steve!) which is about 2Tbs, only because I do large loads ........ and I live in a house full of stinky guys !

I love , love , love this recipe and want to thank who ever out there originally came up with it ! It's a great detergent , does a great job and for little money per load , which during this economy is very helpful and   keeps my high efficiency washer smelling fresh and clean with out having to buy special washer cleaner .

Painting "Angel" by Suzanne Hills VanBrunt (me)

My drawings/paintings always seem to have an emotion to them. This is not something I plan and as with all my work it just slowly reveals it self. With this particular one I have always felt a sense of quiet loneliness. etsy.com/shop/TheMetaphysicalMoose
